Banks asked to bring down directors from same family to 3

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has instructed banks to limit the number of directors from the same family to three. This directive follows the recent passage of The Bank Company (Amendment) Act 2023, which mandates that no more than three directors from a single family can serve on a bank's board. Previously, the Bank Company Act 1991 permitted up to four family members to sit on a bank board simultaneously.

SpaceX wants to launch satellite internet service in Bangladesh

SpaceX, the US-based company founded by Elon Musk, is planning to introduce its satellite internet service, Starlink, in Bangladesh. Officials from SpaceX met with the Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) and the ICT Division to discuss their intent to operate in the country. SpaceX officials demonstrated Starlink's capabilities, with speeds reaching 500mbps.

PM to open Matarbari coal-fired plant in December: project officials

The Matarbari coal-fired power plant in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, is set to begin production by December, contributing 600MW to the national grid. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is anticipated to inaugurate the facility. Recently, a ship from Indonesia delivered 64,300 tonnes of coal for the plant. The 1200MW facility, spanning 1,414 acres, is close to completion, with its coal jetty and infrastructure almost ready.

Vedant Patel, the principal deputy spokesperson for the US Department of State, conveyed support for Bangladesh's objective of conducting free, fair, and peaceful elections during a press briefing in Washington.
