Car Enthusiasts Flock to Car Show

The sounds of oldies music and "wows" from spectators filled the air at the 1997 Kingwood Fall Car Show. It was held on October 19 at Town Center Park.

"Over 120 cars were entered in the competition," exclaimed Fred Rosenberg, President of the Town Center Park Association and owner of On The Park in Town Center. A variety of early model cars, pickup trucks and motorcycles filled the street of Town Center. One could view Alpha Romeo sports cars, Corvettes, Mustangs, Rolls Royces and Volkswagen Beetles at the event.

A Houston police officer was seen at the event eyeing a brilliant red Lamborghini Countach that costs as much as many houses in Kingwood.

The Town Center Park Association and 17 area businesses sponsored the show.

"We do the show to promote the Park and Kingwood," Rosenberg mentioned. He added, "The Park is a great place for civic events. It is safe for people to walk around since we can close off streets for an event. By putting on the car show we are trying to encourage other organizations to do more events. I would like to see arts events and other festivals come here."

Rosenberg was very happy with the public turnout for this car show. "We are also happy about the number of entrants in this show. Our first event brought in 50 cars and now we have over 100," explained Rosenberg. "Most of the entries were from the area, but others came in from Conroe and distant cities," he added. Rosenberg was enthusiastic about discussing future events at the park, "We have a Christmas show coming up after the Thanksgiving holiday and other events are planned for next year. The Christmas show will have many choirs providing the music from the stage."
